All-you-can-drink-and-eat beer and pizza at Great Leap #12

You're unlikely to find a better deal this weekend than Great Leap #12's all-you-can-eat-and-drink pizza and beer blowout this Saturday. From midday to 6pm, attendees can feast on three varieties of unlimited pizza as well as wash it all down with endless glasses of Ohio-hailing Jackie O's bottled beer and Great Leap cans. Eary bird tickets cost RMB 180 or pay RMB 200 at the door. Read more about the beers and how to sign up here.

Whisky and oyster night at George's Bar, Hotel Éclat

If you're looking for something a little more luxurious this weekend then look no further than Hotel Éclat's whisky and oyster night this Saturday, 6-10pm. Each set costs RMB 388 and comes with three varieties of single malt whisky – Oban 14 Year, Caol Ila 12 Year, and Talisker 10 Year – as well as two types of oyster: a Gillardeau No.0 and a La Perle Noire No.0. Book ahead here.

Shangri-La Beers tap takeover at Jing-A XFC

The latest tap takeover at Jing-A Xingfucun is a one-night-only showing from Yunnan's Shangri-La Beer this Friday from 5pm. As well as eight Shangri-La beers on tap, the guests will bring with them "gifts, special bottled exclusives, and tons of surprises." There'll also be snacks from Cravings, including the choice of two sizes of platters or fried potatoes, made Yunnan style. Finally, if you're one of the first people to sign up via the link here, you'll be eligible for three pints for RMB 99 (all beer is RMB 35 a glass otherwise) as well as entered into a lucky draw for a chance to win a special bottle of Shangri-La brew.

In other Jing-A news, the brewery will release its latest creation on the world this Friday: the Slacker. "Scientifically approved for optimal slacking," this 0.5 percent ABV beer is modeled after a hazy IPA and comes complete with similarly juicy tropical fruit aromas, but whose low alcohol level means that even after a few pints deep, "you can still get right back to work. Or to slacking." Genius! Jing-A's popular Suan Mei Tang Berliner Weisse also returns just in time for summer, as does the Lychee Xanadu, available in pours or cans. More on those here.

Brewery tour at Beersmith

Join Beersmith's head brewer Wilson Hede this Saturday, 3-5pm, for the brewery's first "Ales and Tales" taste session. For RMB 300, attendees will receive a guided tour of the brewery, two hours of free-flow on Beersmith's most popular beers, a guided tasting of their core beers and seasonal specials (including their two latest creations: Old Havana Mojito Sour and Extra Dollop Oat Cream Double IPA), and assorted snacks. Spaces are limited and can be booked here.

... And some farewells

Alongside this week's news of Prodigy Brewing shutting its doors in Xingfucun, Paddy O'shea's have announced that their stock lager, the beloved Beijing Beer, is no longer being produced by parent company Asahi Breweries. Cheap, drinkable, and delivered in a satisfyingly thick and chunky glass mug, Beijing Beer was the mainstay of bars like Paddy's and Temple (RIP) for years. For a final taste, head to Paddy's this Friday from 6pm onwards where they'll be selling the remainder of their Beijing Beer for RMB 10 a pint. This isn't the end, however, for Asahi Breweries, who state on their website that they're set to release a "new flavor" beer this year.

The Beijinger called Asahi to get the scoop on what's really going on with Beijing Beer, and a representative was able to tell us simply that the brand has had to cease production temporarily. The representative was unable to comment on the reason behind the stop.

Finally, fans of The Local's buy one, get one free Tiki Thursdays will be sad to hear that this week will be the last round for the deal. Don't worry though as the promotion will be replaced with another next month.
